캐나다 인턴쉽 프로그램에 관한 중요사항 Study & Work Program

 

캐나다 인턴쉽 프로그램에 관련해서 ELS 캐나다의 공지내용을 함께 공유하고자 합니다.

지난번에 캐나다 대사관 세미나에서도 언급이 되었던 부분이지만, 캐나다 사설 어학원의 코업비자 발급관련해서 캐나다 정부에서 새로운 결단을 내린다고 했었습니다. 그동안 사설 어학원에서 인턴쉽 프로그램을 신청하였을경우 학생비자와 코업비자를 발급 하였습니다. 하지만 2014년 1월 부터는 사설어학원에서의 코업비자 (워크퍼밋) 발급을 허용하지 않을거라는 내용이었습니다. 캐나다정부에서 이렇게까지 코업비자에 대한 규제를 내놓는 이유는 여러가지가 있겠지만. 피해를 보는건 학생분들이 아닐까라는 생각이 드네요, 캐나다에서 영어연수 이외에 인턴쉽 프로그램을 통해 현지 경험을 하려는 학생들이 점점 많아 지고 있는 상황인데.. 그리고 사설어학교육기관이 대부분인데. 그럼 인턴쉽을 하기 위해서는 전문 비즈니스 커리어 컬리지 혹은 공립학교를 다녀야만 하는건지.. 

 

아래의 공지 사항을 보면 이번달 말에 CIC에서 최종 결정을 내린다고 하니 어떻게 결정이 되는지 지켜봐야 할 것 같네요. CIC의 결정으로 인해 여러모로 파장이 일어날듯 하긴 한데. 우선은 이번달 말까지는 어떻게 결론이 나는지 기다리는 방법밖에는 없는것 같네요.

 

 

ELS Canada suspending Study & Work Programs

 

I am writing to ensure that you are informed about recent developments related to the Canada Study & Work Programs. Citizenship & Immigration Canada (CIC) is recommending terminating access to work permits for international students in Canada attending private language schools.  Currently, work permits are available to international students participating in Study & Work (or Language Coop) programs at private language schools. CIC should be making a final decision on this matter at the end of this month, with an implementation date of January 2014.  If this comes to pass, there will be no more access to work permits for Study & Work programs at private language schools from the beginning of next year.

 

ELS Canada has not been aggressively promoting Study & Work programs for the past year while the work permit access issue was being debated. Study & Work program information has been removed from our websites and was not included in the 2013 ELS Canada Program Brochure.  We have continued to receive a small number of individual requests which we have been able to accommodate. However, due to the uncertainty of continued access to work permits for our students, and the likelihood that we should be getting a final decision from CIC shortly, ELS Canada will be formally suspending all Work & Study programs effective immediately.

 

If you have already submitted applications for a Study & Work program, we will continue to work with you to arrange the work permit and place the students, but we will not be accepting any new applications for these programs. 

 

If CIC reverses its recommendation and makes a clear announcement that private language school students can have continued access to work permits, we will review the matter and consider offering a Work & Study program again as soon as we can be sure it is in full compliance with CIC regulations.
